Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
The AHA ACLS Provider course is a video-based, Instructor-led course, that teaches advanced cardiac life support skills for application in both in-hospital and prehospital settings. This course does not include pharmacology or cardiac rhythm review or interpretation. This information should already be known and familiar to persons taking this course.
The AHA ACLS course is designed for healthcare professionals who are involved in the care and management of patients. This includes physicians, nurses, dentists, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physician assistants, residents, fellows, medical or nursing students.
Course Format and Exam
For an instructor led course, in person course, students must take and pass the online pre-course self-assessment, with a passing score of 70 % or higher. A certificate of completion should be printed out and taken to your class.
In the instructor led, classroom course, students will participate in simulated scenarios, and various learning and testing skills stations. At the end of the course, students must perform, and pass skills testing, perform high- quality BLS, bag-mask with OPA/NPA insertion and lead a mega code scenario. Lastly, all students must pass the ACLS written exam with a score of 84% or higher. Please note that e-books, provider manuals or any personal notes taken during class can be used as references during the exam.
After course completion you will receive your certification e-card via email within 12-24 hours. Each respective certification is valid for 2 years from the date of class/ card issue.
The HeartCode ACLS online offers students flexibility with a blended eLearning platform allowing students to learn at their own pace. The online portion will assess and test your understanding with an exam, that must be passed with a score of 84% or higher. After this the student must complete an in-person skill assessment and mega code scenario, to ensure competency. Upon completion of all the mentioned steps, a completion card will be awarded to the student.
Course content includes:
- Early recognition and management of respiratory and cardiac arrest
- High quality BLS, CPR coach and team dynamics; in hospital/ facility and pre-hospital setting
- Review of ACLS pharmacology and medication use in cardiac algorithms
- Airway management
- Management of ACS and stroke
- Intraosseous access

An updated AHA 2020 ACLS provider manual is required for the instructor led class. You have the option to purchase the Provider Manual or eBook. We do not stock books for purchase, but we will provide links for purchase in your registration confirmation email.
